General information about Equiwent

The Equiwent website will be fully translated soon.

Equiwent is an international aid organization for humans and animals in need.

Equiwent, with several of its own mobile veterinary practices and farriers in Romania, is the contact for countless working horses.
The first step is always the medical and orthopedic care of the working horses, as well as the supplement of missing or the replacement of damaged equipment e.g. halters and bits. The aim is to immediately eliminate pain and suffering.
This is followed by a process which improves the quality of life of the working horses in the long term – training farriers and horse owners in shoeing, medical care and the daily necessary care of their horses – active long-term assistance/care of the horses on the spot. This assistance involves both shoeing and medical care of the horses. To achieve a lasting effect, a “reward system” is used for the horse owners. Emergency care is of course available for all horses. However, owners who show their horses in a comparatively good condition are rewarded by other special benefits, e.g. they receive new additional equipment.

Equiwent is organized by farriers, by veterinarians and by sworn equine experts. From recovery to rescue via complex operations or hidden accommodation, we are powerful and dynamic in animal welfare, worldwide!

help for animals in need

Equiwent operates the first nonprofit horse clinic in Romania, probably the first free veterinary clinic in Europe. In 2016, Equiwent introduced the neutering program for the dogs of the destitute rural population. This significantly reduces the number of street dogs – preventing misery before it happens. This program runs non-stop – our doctors castrate every day around the clock!

Our engagement
for the people

The project “Equiwent helps people” is the answer to a humanitarian problem in our EU. With the help of this humanitarian program we are currently helping very many children and “ghetto families”. We take care of children, old people and people with disabilities. Besides the basic supply of food and drinking water, we also provide medical care. In addition, there are people who need temporary protection, shelter, medicine or food.

We make sure that the children attend school and teach the subject “animal welfare” at the schools.

People in a humanitarian emergency, caused by natural disasters or violent conflicts, depend on a protective infrastructure. Rapid crisis response is always a race against time. While the clock is ticking, we can provide rapid and unconventional assistance – anytime, anywhere. To this end, we keep heated emergency tents, power supply equipment, cots and blankets on hand at all times. Parallel to the humane accommodation, the direct emergency care of the homeless refugees takes place. This includes the provision of food, water, medicines, hygiene articles and other urgently needed relief supplies. Our aid convoy includes specially equipped vehicles for veterinary treatment and care in disaster areas. In this way, we also ensure the protection of the animals that have fled with them. After the emergency aid, the main part of our work begins – for the disaster areas we are in charge of, we guarantee an intensive and sustainable program of reconstruction and improvement of the living conditions of affected people and animals.

We will continue to provide holistic care for the refugees and find ways to enable them to live a safe and independent life.

EQUIWENT sees itself as an advocate for people and animals in the greatest and most extreme need.
